About Sendai Karate Club
Sendai Karate Club is a karate club based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. The club teaches the traditional Shotokan style of karate. Sendai Karate Club was founded in 1967 in Sunderland, and proved so popular that Jeff Barwick set up a sister branch in Newcastle in 1975. The club is run by Ernie Payne (4th Dan), Terry Parkinson (1st Dan) and Sandra Calder (4th Dan), and benefits from regular visits by guest instructors such as Sensei Owen Murray MBE (6th Dan), who combines traditional karate with street-style self defence techniques, and Sensei Frank Brennan (7th Dan).
